Breakfast: Of champions...Frosted Flakes. ($0)
Lunch: Baby shower food. It's amazing how full I can get off of little foods. ($0)
Dinner: Bean quesadilla in a "spinach" tortilla. ($0)
Dessert: Cookie in a mug, thanks for the recommendation Julie. You're my favorite sister. ($0)
I've decided to start blogging my eating adventures. Mostly because cooking has become increasingly boring lately and this will add some excitement to my life. I'm not that girl who shares what she eats because I have an eating disorder. I don't believe in dieting. I think diets, like budgets, are lame and evil. On that financial note, some may consider me cheap and wonder why I can't afford regular food, this has nothing to do with that. Really I am just trying to be more resourceful so my money can be used for more important things. I decided to put cost next to my meals. If it is something I have in the pantry it's free which I realize isn't super accurate but going forward, if I grocery shop, I'll consider those costs.
On my sister's recommendation I stole the title from Carrie Sun's blog on hospital eating .

Frosted Flakes and Meat
Breakfast: A few weeks ago the same friends that were getting rid of their Hot Pockets gave me Frosted Flakes, I finally opened the bag this morning, they're grrreat. ($0)
Lunch: I went to lunch with Heather at Vivace this amazing Italian restaurant by my house. I got some type of meatball sandwich. It was delicious and she paid. ($0)
Lunch Dessert: We went to gelato they have this chai one that tastes like...chai. I paid (8.50)
Dinner: This family from church had a bunch of people over for dinner for some collection of meats grilled and stuck in a tortilla. And by collection of meat I mean chorizo, ground beef, hot dogs, ham and bacon. Fortunately I was still fairly full from lunch so wasn't tempted to eat more than one taco and a huge side of fruit salad. ($0)

Interesting
Breakfast: Egg and strawberry shortcake - don't ask. ($0)
Lunch: Fish taco and green beans. Some foods are equally good or better as left overs, this was not one of them. I think because I was to lazy to do them up right. And there was no more fried cheese. ($0)
Dinner 1: Grapes and peanuts. ($0)
Dinner 2: When I got back from class at 10 I made my self a quesadilla with these special tortillas. ($0)

A good meal
Breakfast: After walking I made fruit parfaits for everyone. Then when I got home I had an egg. ($0)
Lunch: Grilled cheese sandwich. I usually don't make these because I only have grated cheese and it's a little tricky but it was super delicious. ($0)
Shopping: I went to the veggie store and then this amazing Mexican grocery store/anything else you would ever need, Pro's Ranch Market. ($15.04)
Dinner: My friend Carey was in town staying at Morgan's so they came over for a delicious dinner. The menu?
Appetizers: Fried cheese! Morgan and I are terrible at frying cheese and Carey is an expert so she taught us. It was amazing.
Entree: Fish tacos-my roommate bought fish from the Schwan's man and didn't like it so I turned it in to some really good (seriously) fish tacos.
Sides: Green beans, the mold really did stay off from the day before and they were lovely.
Drinks: There is this wonderful Nica version of Kool-Aid called Zuco, undisputedly the best flavor is passion fruit. The Mexican stores here have Zuco but not in maracuyá. However, when we went to the super Mexican grocer they had Klass, a different brand of powdered drink mix, in maracuyá. PTL.

Hidden Foods
Breakfast: Eggs and toast ($0)
Lunch: Hot Pocket and green beans. And you know what the scarier part of this meal was? The green beans, they had been hidden in the fridge a little too long so some major work had to be done to get rid of the moldiness. But I think I did a reasonable job and they tasted fabulous (thanks Aimee, I'll do better next time with timeliness) ($0)
Dinner: Sometimes I find "meals" that I purchased in August and get excited for variety. What food caused this excitement? Rice cakes and peanut butter and an orange. ($0)
Shopping: Tomorrow morning is my walking partner's birthday so I bought yogurt, berries and granola to make parfaits. ($12.48)

too much free food?
Breakfast: Total and strawberries ($0)
Lunch: Bean quesadilla and grapes ($0)
Snack: I went to coffee with a friend, I was running late so I had to pay for myself unless I wanted to look really desperate. I could write more about this but not without it getting awkward. I got an orange pellegrino, it was cheaper than iced tea. ($2.63)
Dinner: Monday night is my Chick-fil-A night, usually I don't actually eat a whole meal but I got there early so I did. ($0)
Dessert: When I dropped Deborah (my Chick-fil-A friend) off at her house, her parents invited me in for dessert, leftovers from yesterday's senior tea. I had a very fancy strawberry short cake and now I feel alittle lot sick. ($0)

Tea food
Breakfast: String cheese and strawberries ($0)
Snack: An assortment from the church snack table ($0)
Lunch: It was senior tea day after church and I got roped into volunteering (and eating leftovers). I thought I was going to starve to death but then started sneaking treats until I was going to explode ($0)
Dinner: The tea food held me until about 10pm when I had some cereal ($0)
Weekly total: $16.96, after so many weeks at zero this is kind of a disappointment but still completely reasonable for a normal person.

better eating, worse spending
Breakfast: Last multi-grain pancake, an egg, an orange ($0)
Lunch: In order to avoid the draw of Hot Pockets decided to open up another can of beans. Lunch was bean quesadilla with grapes (a new purchase) ($1.44)
Grocery store: I went to dinner at my friend Heather's house but decided to not be totally stingy and bring bread and dessert so I had to go to the grocery store, I bought myself some milk too ($8.18)
Dinner: Heather grilled veggies and bratwurst, I made strawberry shortcake. It's good to eat with people that feed me balanced meals. ($0)

my very lopsided food triangle
Breakfast: Another Bigote with eggs. ($0)
Lunch: I got a free Starbucks drink coupon for my birthday. I got a big one and drank it with half of a chicken salad sandwich I got Monday night when I picked my friend up from work at Chick-fil-a. 5 or so hours later, still at Starbucks (don't you hate it when you are assigned chapter 8 and you read XIII and your work is doubled) I got a piece of pumpkin bread on a gift card. ($0)
Dinner: I went straight from Starbucks to church and when I got home at 9 I at the second half of my sandwich. ($0)
While typing this I realized that my only fruit/vegetable for the day was the tomato and lettuce on my sandwich, unless you could pumpkin bread. I have fruits and vegetable in my fridge so I should probably work those into my diet.

my exciting life continues
Breakfast: Luz sent me home with my favorite Mexican breakfast pastries. Bigotes which are essentially pre-packaged chocolate croissants. I heated up one of those to have with some scrambled eggs. ($0)
Lunch: Back in October I bought a Groupon for a sandwich place, it expires tomorrow or something so I finally cashed it in today and took my friend Grace for lunch. I still paid $5 for tip and tax but it was kind of exciting to get to order the most expensive thing on the menu and not worry about it. ($5)
Dinner: Some veggies and a brownie at church and then instant oatmeal when I got back. ($0)

Mexico, in sum
I was in Mexico last week and don't think I could tell you what I ate even if I wanted to. Actually I think the majority of what I ate could be classified as "tacos." I just highlight some of my meals (all free).
Churros: Sometimes on Sunday nights in Mascota you can buy fresh churros, and by fresh I mean you watch them be pulled from the frier. They are delicious and when I think of Mascota I think of churros.
Popsicles: You can also get some good fresh fruit or whatever popsicles around town. I might have found excuses to wander around near those shops a few times.
Breakfast: Normally we ate breakfast at home. Usually eggs or smoothies, always delicious. One morning, for my birthday, we went out to my favorite cafe and I got this. Normally I don't think caramel frappuccinos and nachos are a good breakfast but here it worked.
For more regular meals we had...
Nopales aka cactus: rellenod and in salad. I'm not a gigantic fan.
Tacos: lots with beans, some with chicken, some with potatoes. Here's a picture of some I ate on my birthday with a side of dots. It was quite the party.
My stomach was totally fine until I came home and had a dinner and breakfast of wheat Chex at my parents. That ruined me. I'm doing better today.

Day #52
Breakfast: #1stale peanut butter crackers, #2 I got a coupon for a free Starbuck's oatmeal that was about to expire so I cashed it in on the way home from my walk. ($0)
Lunch: I flew home, my sister picked me up from the airport and took me to La Boulange! I love that place and got this amazing portabello and brie "burger." ($0)
Dinner: Family dinner including meat, and vegetables, and fruit, and bread, and dessert. Who knew. ($0)
Now I'm home where people feed me and will be going to Mexico on Friday for a week so I'll be taking a blogging break until the 19th.

non-vegan
Without too much heartache I think I could become a vegetarian but I don't think I could ever voluntarily give up cheese or eggs.
Breakfast: Eggs and the rest of my butternut squash ($0)
Lunch: Chick-fil-a chicken nuggets sent home with me last night. ($0)
Dinner: I fully intended on actually spending money tonight but that didn't happen. I stayed on campus longer than normal but did find some peanuts in my glove box to hold me over. When I got home I had a quesadilla with a scrambled egg in it with a side of leftover egg salad from Sunday's deviled eggs. ($0)

cake
Days like this I think I would gain credibility by not writing what I ate, but since this is about cost, not quaility don't judge.
Breakfast: Egg, biscuit, butternut squash and some cake ($0)
Lunch: One of those chicken hot pocketish things and more butternut squash. ($0)
Dinner: First course - an orange and a mystery combination of snacks I found in a ziplock bag in my purse. Second course - Chick-fil-a fries and lemonade. Third course - red velvet cheesecake. ($0)
So what happened between courses 1 &2? I went to pick my friend Deborah from work at Chick-fil-a so she gave me some food. It was her grandparents' 52 anniversary so I was going to drop her off at their house but the family invited me in thus the cake.

ATM's
Breakfast: A little cleanse was needed after yesterday. I had Total, green tea and a grapefruit. ($0)
Lunch: Pita chips ($0)
Dinner: Morgan's work was having a $5 fundraiser dinner. So you could guess that my meal was $5. I only had $1 cash so I went to the ATM, unfortunately back in December I tried to get money out of my ATM and had no clue what my pin was, I tried a few random combinations and they locked me out. I hadn't been back since then but figured my false tries were long forgotten. Well they weren't so today I put in my correct pin the first try and they said I exceeded my attempts. I guess I'll have to call to clear that up. So Moragan had to pay for my dinner. Moral of the story, I am really generous with charities. Dinner was good, it was New Mexican food followed up with a super loud mariachi band and dancing. ($0)

Every once in a while I don't leave the house, those days are strange but keep me from spending money.
Breakfast: Eggs and toast ($0)
Lunch: Hot Pocket and orange ($0)
Dinner: Morgan came over we made butternut squash, salad and mushroom quesadillas with the last of the mushrooms ($0)
Dessert: My sister recently sent me a recipe for cake that you make in the microwave in 2 minutes. It was surprisingly easy and cake like - I don't know if that's a good thing. ($0)
