I've decided to start blogging my eating adventures. Mostly because cooking has become increasingly boring lately and this will add some excitement to my life. I'm not that girl who shares what she eats because I have an eating disorder. I don't believe in dieting. I think diets, like budgets, are lame and evil. On that financial note, some may consider me cheap and wonder why I can't afford regular food, this has nothing to do with that. Really I am just trying to be more resourceful so my money can be used for more important things. I decided to put cost next to my meals. If it is something I have in the pantry it's free which I realize isn't super accurate but going forward, if I grocery shop, I'll consider those costs.
On my sister's recommendation I stole the title from Carrie Sun's blog on hospital eating .

more good-bye

Breakfast: Still housesitting, bacon and egg on toast. ($0)
Lunch: One of my friends from church is going away to college soon so I took her out to lunch. Really it was an excuse for me to get a good meal.  We went to The Grove (the one restaurant like La Boulange here).  I had a really satisfying veggie sandwich. ($27.70)
Dinner: We had another little hangout session with my friend Charles who moves tomorrow.  He wasn't hungry so he watched the rest of us eat breakfast burritos then we got shakes from Sonic and watched the Olympics.  ($0)

Monday, July 30, 2012

Breakfast: Banana bread and yogurt. ($0)
Lunch: Cheese and crackers. ($0)
Dinner: I'm still dog-sitting and I met the neighbors, meeting me was the highlight of her day (her words).  I helped move some furniture and snagged myself a prime-rib supper.  I really like meeting neighbors in fancy sub-burbs.  Salad with fresh roasted beats, bread, baked potato, prime rib a pomegranate popsicle a job offer, and an invitation to come back any time.  ($0)

Gallo Pinto!

Breakfast: egg, cheese and bean burrito ($0)
Lunch: I had some frozen rice, I think from Chipotle in Novemeber, and some frozen red beans I made in the crock pot quite a while back, and half an onion from something.  Fry it together and what do you get?!? Gallo Pinto!  totally not as good as it would be in Nicaragua but am OK semblance. ($0)
Brinner: It was breakfast for dinner tonight at Bible study.  There was all sorts of goodness, I brought watermelon and other melon (both donations) and I used it as an excuse to buy a box of peanut butter Puffins.  The box didn't get opened which is fine by me! (3.99)

Souper Salad!

Breakfast: Cereal ($0)
Lunch:  This elderly couple took me to Souper Salad! for lunch after church.  What is Souper Salad? like Sizzler but WAY more ghetto.  They've actually taken me to Sizzler here in Albuquerque too.  I got a salad, no souper, and a sweet potato, and, of course, the best thing about a buffet...soft serve! It was lovely, and free! ($0)
Dinner: Youth group breakfast burritos. Delish! ($0)

Eggplant Compote

Good thing I have a job.

Breakfast: You'd think since I really don't have a schedule I could have a legit breakfast everyday but somehow that doesn't happen.  Granola bar on the way to my boss's house and a yogurt when I got there. ($0)
Lunch:  At his house still, salmon on wafers and Israeli salad and apple pie.  He also brought me some random food, like unprepared lamb chops, to bring home, those will appear in later posts. ($0)
Dinner: I went to the grocery store, I wanted to find the cheapest prepared meal.  It ended up being weird organic vegan artichoke and olive raviolis with I think rice based pasta. I got some produce and butter too. ($11.42)

Technically I got back yesterday but we'll ignore that. Actually today should be ignored too.

Breakfast: Eggs on A-Z bread. ($0)
Lunch: Fish taco and cherries. ($0)
Dinner: There is a family from my church here that feeds me at least once a week.  They have 7 kids so it's not really reasonable to ever have them over to my house (we don't have enough plates).  The 5 oldest kids are gone so I had the remaining 4 people over for dinner.  Greek chicken pita sandwiches, watermelon and mint salad, buttermilk, roasted strawberry cake with vanilla ice cream.  I was nervous since my pot luck food never gets eaten but this seemed well received. I went to 3 stores, mostly becasue I'm indecisive. I got some other staples too. ($30.26)

Monday, July 2, 2012

Breakfast: Another hard boiled egg and piece of bacon left from my roommate. ($0)
Lunch: Fish taco and corn salsa. ($0)
Dinner:  FroYo ($1.61)

Why do I try

Breakfast: A-Z Bread, some old frosted flakes so I could get rid of the box. ($0)
Lunch: We have potlucks the 1st Sunday of the month.  I have no idea what to bring ever. I made delicious corn salsa and will be eating corn salsa this week.  My favorite is the lady who always makes homemade cream puffs.  I did have to buy chips. ($5.91)
Dinner: Fruit, and fruit smoothie. ($0)
